A dark and ominous local accosted me on my walk back to the hotel last night. The local, of the bug variety, scurried across my path as I stalked after it to get a picture for the blog. After I repressed the urge to get on the next plane back to Baltimore, or "Bawlmer" as the locals say, it got me thinking about reporting and in particular story ideas.
Right away I wanted to rush back to the hotel and blog about how "we don't have 3 feet long bugs like this in Maryland" (I may have been exaggerating a little at this point) and how in Maryland not only do we not have unnecessarily large bugs, we can drive from the mountains to the beach in three hours. I then remembered Steve's pyramid where story ideas are the second most important link. I like my students though, held on to the bad idea and still was determined to blog about my bug encounter. It was only after typing and retyping the same entry that I realized, no amount of writing can cover a bad idea. So ultimately I gave in and admitted that this indeed is true, and I abandoned the bad idea. Well...almost.

ReplyDeleteNice! I was wondering what this bug sighting had to do with the events, and then you blindsided me (in a GOOD way) with the left hook and proved that you learned the lesson of the day - be willing to pull the plug when a project is not working.
