There is an on-line training video site called Xtrain.com that has a wide range of video tutorials on photography, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Lightroom and a host of other topics that I use and recommend others check out. The normal cost on this web site is $199 for 1-year of unlimited access to all f their courses. Currently they are running a special and the cost for one year of access to everything on the site is $79.
I strongly encourage you to stop by and check it out. Some of the video lessons are free to preview.

There is another site that is similar to the one mentioned here. It is called lynda.com and all the tutorials are super easy to follow. If I remember correctly, it was developed by a woman who wanted to better understand the rapidly expanding range of technological products... But understand the simply. It's really user friendly and it breaks things down into a language that normal people (not techie geek wizards) can understand.
ReplyDeleteIf you can get your school to spring for a year subscription, it's $250. And it is totally worth it. And there are HUNDREDS, if not more, tutorials that you can browse through and learn from. If $250 is too much, you can do a monthly subscription for $25.... just enough time for you to really wrap your head around some of the more complex products that companies like Adobe put it.
This site was recommended to me by a friend who works in video production. He said a lot of professionals look to it to maintain their skill set with the newest products. Can't hurt if you have the time!
Hope this helps everyone.

Creativecow.net comes highly recommended by my son who IS a "techie geek wizard." Of course, they have their products for sale, but when I checked it out tonight, they also listed 157 free video tutorials on Adobe Photoshop. The URL is: http://library.creativecow.net/tutorials/adobephotoshop
ReplyDeleteI actually had it on my to-do list to check out creativecow this summer and select some of the most basic tutorials around which to structure some independent photo editing assignments for my students. After today's session, I'm feeling pretty empowered, though, and I may be able to hit some basic things with them all by myself when I return in the fall.
I'll probably still do the independent assignments for my advanced students and challenge them to some more advanced photo editing tasks.
