Adobe Photoshop Session

I acquired needed skills during this afternoon's Adobe Photoshop session. I attended the beginner's class. Unfortunately, my school does not have Adobe Photoshop and I do not have it at home. Aside from what I learned during the session, I got a couple of tips from Mark Webber and Carlos Contreras about potential grant sources from HEB, a Texas grocery chain, and Best Buy. I'll try them both. I teach at a private school and the administration may not approve of the grant attempts, but it's worth a try. I learned a few other things at the session. I learned that if I borrow a camera I should also borrow the instruction manual. I also learned that keeping the lens clean improves the quality of the photographs. Simple. Or so it should be. I had the good fortune to sit next to Sharon Nolan (pictured) who had the patience to walk me through a few steps. Several others helped, too, and I really appreciate the assistance.

  1. The commaraderie among all of us (mostly) new journalism teachers is such a helpful aspect of this Institute. I too have loved how helpful all have been--from providing suggestions on how to manage a lot of students using few computers (thanks Becky) to using the magic marker in Photoshop (thanks Kye). I think I'm learning almost as much from the other teachers here as I am from those wonderful instructors leading the sessions.

  2. Yes, it's the basic stuff like cleaning the lens, isn't it?

We don't have Photoshop at either, so I'm going to try some of your sources for a grant. If I hear of anything, I'll let you know. Deal?

I found Photoshop I lot of fun (maybe too much fun?). It's kind of scary how you can improve something so easily.
