Tracy Collins is senior director of operations at The Arizona Republic. He supervises the paper's design, photo/video, graphics, technology, copy and wire desks. Collins had a unique approach in his Thursday presentation. His 10 Commandments of Type are said to lead you to the Promised Land of design!
This was wonderful! The approach was well thought out, clear and very understandable especially to beginners like me!
Although everything he said had meaning and was very relevant, it was not directed towards an online newspaper. After the presentation, I was able to ask him if these design commandments were as applicable to the web environment as they were to print media. He informed me that they were and they were not. As a favor he sent me 3 .pdf files that include more information specifically to those of us who are trying to create an online paper.
