Fellows Follow Weintraut
Terms like eye line, tool line and pica came easy to Weintraut while showing new ways to make, as he put it, "Poppin' Prose!"
Alan Weintraut, 2006 National High School Journalism Teacher of the Year, led half of the 35 Reynolds Institute fellows into the realms of design layout using Adove In Design during the last session on Friday, June 19. Teachers became students while learning how to set fonts, change leading and insert pull quotes. There were a few ahahh moments as he demonstrated how to set columns and later export newspapers as .pdf files. He explained that pages can be worked on independently, printed or sent electronically to other computers for review and not have to be edited entirely on one computer.
The state of art Apple IMAC computers at ASU's Cronkite School are loaded with the full gammet of Adobe CS3 programs which include In Design, Illustrator, Dreamweaver, Flash programs in addition to Final Cut Pro 6, Soundtrack Pro and the ILife '08 software suite.
Awesome! Thanks Alan!

I appreciated Alan's time and help during his Indesign session. I don't have Indesign at my school. I'll propose to my principal that we acquire the program, even though all budgets are frozen. We are not normally permitted to raise funds at my school. Considering the times, maybe this will change.
