As I stated- I'm coming off of my first year teaching, and to say that this year was a learning experience would be an understatement. New to the profession, I was given the task of four preparations, including: Intro to Journalism, Broadcast Journalism, Newspaper and a TAKS English course. Although at times difficult, I was able to endure the tough schedule and allow my love for journalism to takeover.
There is a strong chance I'll be one of the younger participants in the institute, but I'm beyond excited to share my experiences and learn of yours along the way.
**Safe travels to each of you!!!

I've just finished my first year as well, also with four preps, though I'm rather jealous of yours! I had to teach test prep and 9th graders! I would have loved some more journalism in my workload.
ReplyDeleteI'd LOVE to chat with you about your broadcast class--I am dying to introduce a broadcast element into my journalism class, as a coopertive effort with our video productions department.
Hopefully we can chat in a week!
Sounds great!! My broadcast class was my biggest challenge, since we only had two cameras (both of which are older than I am). Luckily I recently met a gentleman who is going to provide us funding if we insert his commercials into our weekly broadcasts.
ReplyDeleteWe'll definitely talk more...
I'm also really interested in beefing up our morning announcements and hope to work with my Creative Writing and Journalism students to do just that -- I don't have much broadcast experience, altho I took a class or two in college (back in the Stone Age). Hope we can all share war stories -- Lynn Wolf Dulcie
ReplyDeleteHey Ari!
ReplyDeleteI just finished reading your blog, and I completely know where you are coming from. I'm a first year teacher too, and in Texas! ...Hope to meet you in the institute, I'm curious to hear your stories as a first year teacher!!
I'm absolutely thrilled to meet each of you. And do I ever have some "first year teacher" stories to share!!! Can't wait until Sunday...

hey, so I didn't want to post this on the main forum, but has anyone received check in instructions. I took the liberty of calling the hotel, but they don't have a reservation under my name. I wonder if we are under a group name or something?
ReplyDeleteCarlos, I actually emailed the same question to Steve. I'm still waiting for a response...
