One answer to some of those practical questions

Those first few years of teaching journalism are intimidating. I know. I've been there, and in many ways, I still feel as if I am a newbie. The Spark Handbook contains many examples of the brass tacks we are learning about here at the institute. It is designed as a staff manual for the journalism students at Lakota East High School, but it can be a font of information for classes everywhere.

Last summer, determined to make progress on my journalism teaching, I ordered a bunch of books from the
Journalism Education Association Web store. The Spark manual was full of revealing information that I had struggled with before. It is packed with examples of rubrics, grading procedures, expectations for each job, style sheets and quick tips for reporting, writing and taking pictures. If you like to see models, this is an excellent book, and I highly recommend it for anyone -- first-timers and veterans alike.

I have looked into this handbook and have ordered one. It looks so be a good addition to any beginners library.

    Thank you.
