What can ASNE do for you? Let Me Count the Ways!
I speak for all the 2009 Fellows at ASU's Cronkite School in saying THANK YOU ASNE! Ms. Diana Mitsu Klos explained to educators about the benefits and helps available to them on the http://www.highschooljournalism.org/ website. Highlighted topics included the use of databases such as Microsoft Access and Excell in organizing information. She showed how she uses this type of database in organizing information specifically about this session of the Reynolds Institute and it's students.
She also explained different aspects of the website and free web hosting provided by www.my.hsj.org which includes lesson plans, the use of Facebook and social networks in reporting, as well as a new ad feature that will search out appropriate ads for online newspapers created by high schools from around the country.
All of this and more is provided free of cost! Outstanding! Thank you!!

ReplyDeleteWe are so fortunate in the world of high school journalism to have ASNE providing the Web hosting service and advertising service, in addition to arranging for us to have limited to access to MCT Campus (wire service) plus what you mentioned, the lesson plans, resources, the really neat First Amendment poster and so much more.
The Web site now allows students to link to their own personal social network sites and blogs, so that's really nice.
By joining a state journalism organization (in Texas, organizations), and national organization we do not have to work alone, in isolation, as then one has a big support group, the majority of whom are willing to share.

New to the world of high school journalism, I frequently seek sources, experts if you will, that are knowledgeable in the field. ASNE is that one resource that rookie and veteran teachers alike can turn to for the assistance necessary to get through the year.
ReplyDeleteOften times organizations will have post information online, but do poor jobs in updating the site. ASNE is constantly seeking out new ways to be the prime resource for teachers to turn to in those moments of desperation.
