Rick Rodriguez's talk on diversity prompts us to ask our staff important questions:
Are we being truly diverse?
Are we representing every sector in the community?
Are we accurately reflecting what is going on?
Diversity in a newsroom is including everybody’s background, different points of view, and different ways of telling stories. According to Rodriguez, our role as advisors is to bring voices into the paper that otherwise would not be heard; bring a different view on important matters. Part of a mission of the newspaper is to help people understand each other and understand what is going on around them. To have an open mind.
