Are you on Word Watch??

Use they…I mean them! Perhaps I should use we. Or should I use us? All of these words can rattle your brain. As journalist, it is essential to know when to use the correct word, because after all, we are the professionals. Jennifer Johnson, a senior copy editor at the Arizona Republic did a fantastic job of going in-depth into some of the most common mistakes writers make when writing in AP style.

She said that it truly does not matter which if you have a slightly older edition of the stylebook, as long as you have one. In addition, each campus should compose one of their own specifically addressing words related to the campus. (i.e. mascot, name of school, acronyms used on campus, etc).

A common misconception by many students is that knowing how to use AP style and having great grammar is only for students interested in print journalism, but such is not the case.

“Even if you are going into broadcast, you still need to know grammar for the scripts you write on a daily basis,” Johnson said.

She also provided the fellows with great websites to visit for resources to utilize in journalism classes. I have listed them below.
