This is the last thing I ever though I would be doing in my professional career. I fell into teaching through my last job. I worked for the largest grocer in Texas as a Public Relations Director, and one of our many contributions to the community was to acknowledge the hard work of Texas teachers by rewarding them with 'Teacher of the year' awards. Nonetheless, I was responsible for surprising these individuals with the news that they were chosen as finalists.
I got the opportunity to meet this teachers and every single one of them had a story to share with me. They shared their work, their passion with me, and as I did this everyday for two weeks. I felt that my life could take a different path if I let it. Therefore I marched into my boss' office and turned in my resignation. I attended teaching certification classes in the summer, and by the fall of 2008, my journey began. My first year of teaching has been full of surprised, from teaching in a closet ( if you want to know more, just talk to me, trust me, I'll share), to having my first senior class, and having to say goodbye to them. It has been a huge rollercoaster ride, one I wouldn't trade for anything in this world.
I never though that I would have the opportunity to belong to such a prestigious group of people after only a year of teaching! I am very excited about the next two weeks, and can't wait to meet many of you. I have been reading every one's bios, and it will be interesting to see what we can all create together.
See you all Sunday!

I look forward to meeting you, too, Carlos. I live just east of you in Harlingen.
ReplyDeleteHello Carlos and Mark. I am upriver from both of you, in Laredo.
ReplyDeleteCarlos, I take it you worked for HEB? I've been a teachers' award semi-finalist twice. I hope you (and Mark) apply for teacher of the year in the fall.

hey, so I didn't want to post this on the main forum, but has anyone received check in instructions. I took the liberty of calling the hotel, but they don't have a reservation under my name. I wonder if we are under a group name or something?
