Hello Everyone! I just found out this morning that I am going to the Institute! I, along with over 500 other applicants, was denied the first time I applied. Fortunately for me, one of you has had to declined due to personal issues. I am very sorry for that applicant, but very grateful to be chosen! My name is Denice Westover. I have taught for 4 years at Snowflake High School in Northeastern Arizona. I have no formal journalism training.... but, alot of determination! I am a CTE teacher with a background in Information Systems. I was asked to teach the week before school started and have been on the run ever since!
Last year our school was lucky enough to be granted equipment, training, etc. to begin a journalism class and an online newspaper that was funded through ASU's Stardust Program. This has been such a help! I teach the Digital Media classes which include video and TV production as well as photography and 2D animation. My students did a really good job with their website, but we need to learn more. Thanks ASNE!

Denice, you've already earned extra credit for your flexibility. See you Sunday. All: Irma Garcia of Coolidge, Ariz., had to drop out due to a family emergency.

Good grief, Denice, it looks like you're the queen of can-do! Not only taking on a teaching position with little notice, but joining us for 2 weeks on little notice. None of us has met yet, but we're all excited to start. See you on Sunday!

Hi Denice - What exciting news for you. I think a lot of us are like you, without formal training. Thank goodness for the Reynolds Intitute, who recognized this lack of preparedness in high school journalism teachers and created this excellent opportunity for us all. Congratulations on your last-minute inclusion. I'll be looking forward to meeting a "local."
